+39 Manifatture is a small fashion production company located in Milan, Italy. The company works mainly in consumer fashion, both menswear and womenswear. Their core clients are small brands and individual designers, including Italian and international labels. +39 Manifatture encompasses the entire chain of production at their office in Milan. Depending on the size of the order, clothes would be sampled, altered, and finalized in-house before being sent to other factories.
As a fashion design intern, I mainly worked in the technical design side. I took physical samples or sketches from clients and created technical sheets that would communicate the design features for production. Using samples or previous pieces from the company's archive, I drafted and developed new patterns for the collection. Samples would be constructed then tried on during client and model fittings, which would often have notes on alterations, fit adjustments, and design changes from the designer.
Computer-aided design is still not widespread in Italy. However, +39 Manifatture has been utilizing CAD for their patterns for over a decade. The program is worked with is the Lectra-Modaris Software. I was in charge of digitalizing the finished handmade patterns onto the program and grading them using the software. I also created different placement graphics for the garment to be cut out of fabric.
